DECEPTION
“Woe to him who doesn't know how to wear his mask, be he king or pope!”
Luigi Pirandello
The Mask
The inevitable duality between our inner and social selves is the background for this poignant work that exposes a theme very dear to Daniela Caraman.
With a subtle change of focus, the artist carries our attention away from the reasons that might lead the subject to avoid expressing their feelings and emotions or hide behind an inauthentic façade and directs it toward the moment when this deception is unveiled.
There, behind the eyes, for a split second, the Truth seems to peep out as the soul reflects itself in the mirror of the iris, which is incapable of simulating.
