FRAGMENTS OF MEMORY
Years later, the hieratic atmosphere of that evening became an edifice in my memory.
So I painted ‘Lights and Shadows’, where Naples Yellow marries burnt Sienna in a fatal embrace on the imaginary altar of the penumbra.
Lights and Shadows
Romania, 1993. A chance encounter with British landscape painter Richard Hoare becomes a defining moment in the formative path of young Daniela Caraman.
24 years later, she evokes that momentous night and her now close relationship with light and the eternal duality of light and shadow, which becomes the subject of this work.
Lights and shadows are expressed in the form of a chromatic play that delves into our daily experience with Good and Evil. As colours intertwine in a subtle dance, we are suddenly faced with an impasse, metaphorically represented by the unattainable disconnection of these two elements.
